My story....What about me is so interesting that you ask my story? Well, sit down and grab a cup of tea. I will recount the many tales since my mysterious appearance in this land, and you can decide then if I warrant your interest.
One day, in the middle of cleaning the temple at which I was studying, I suddenly....I don't know how to explain this other than "appeared"....in the middle of some person's basement full of what appeared to be lava and some kind of forever-burning red stone. There was no "waking up," as I've seen here written on the parchment by other adventurers in this world. It was more of a blink, and there I was, alone in the world or fire and brimstone. The only discernible difference in the red ground was a single drab, grey stone. Out of instinct, I stepped on it. A voice boomed in my head!
"This is the starting tutorial, find your way out of the Nether."
The wha?...Tut-huh? Well it said that the first thing to do was to find my way out of this area, I think. So I searched for a path, ladders, anything to get me out of this heat! After some amount of searching, I was able to climb out of the room of burning stones. On the way, I stepped on another one of those speaking grey stones.
"You made it safely out! You probably noticed that you can't break or place any blocks."
I didn't understand how anyone could possibly be focused on "breaking or placing blocks", whatever that meant, with the heat being around 110°F.
"The whole world is protected."
From what? I would soon find out...
"The only place you can build or destroy blocks is on your own Claim. I'll tell you about claims later in this Tutorial."
I still had no idea what the tutorial is, or why I was listening to voices in my head. I walked to the nearby wooden door and stepped on another one of those speaking stones. The door automatically opened! Sorcery! I walked forward, despite the doorway being blocked by some wooden wall. Instinctively, I walked into it, and to my surprise, phased directly through the wall. Amazing, this world!
"This Inn will provide you with some starting supplies which will respawn every 30 minutes. You can also sleep in beds at night to regain any lost hit points."
I was beginning to think that I would never understand anything in this world. Respawn? Hit points? All of this was over my head. I planned on figuring it out as I continued on. I walked past the bed and walked directly into the door. It was too late, but I soon realized that Not all doors in this world operated automatically. I stepped back, marveling at my own stupidity, and opened the door like a regular human being. Yet another one of the speaking stones.
"Try some of these commands. /money....."
There were more, but I cannot recall them. I wandered around the inn, checking the rooms, seeing them filled with beds, boxes, and other goodies. Then I heard a foreign sound. It was as if an animal were whining. I wandered more about the inn, looking for the source of that unsettling noise.
It sounded the same all throughout the building! I listened more closely. The sound was coming from me! I was hungry! I scrounged through the boxes I had found earlier in the rooms. I found some delicious looking red apples and, oddly enough, a fully cooked beefsteak. It was cold, but I was starving; I wolfed down every bit of food I could get my hands on.
Finally satisfied, I stepped out of the house. Ignoring the speaking stones now, I pushed ahead through this "tutorial." I stepped out of the inn and into another hallway, this time made out of cold grey stone. The atmosphere shifted from warm and familiar, straight to cold and foreign. Vines and cobwebs decorated the walls while moss and cracked stones made up the floor beneath me. I stepped very carefully, avoiding any of the larger holes in the ground.
I then arrived at a fork in the path.
I looked right and saw stairs leading down into the unknown.
Left, and there were what looked like small totems, each with an accompanying wooden sign.
I chose left. Walking on a wooden plate on the ground, I heard a different voice. A male voice this time. Something about choosing a job. I looked through them all. Being a monk in my previous life, I decided to choose a new life. Similar to the monk, I chose to be a cleric in this new world. I could go around healing and helping people, said the sign. This sounded excellent! If I found anyone, we would never have to fear death or injury! Elated, I strode out of the room, feeling much better about my new future.
The stairs were next. The stairs leading into the dark unknown. Hesitant now, I took my first step. Nothing. The second step. Nothing. Maybe I was scared for no reason. Maybe nothing was actually down here. I started to gain speed.
I came to a wrap-around. The stairs doubled back to the left and went down even further. At least I saw grass at the end of this set of stairs. I passed a few more speaking wooden slabs, but I ignored them. I did see something about a profession though, so I chose the path of the lowly woodsman. I would make a living off of the land, cutting down trees and selling the wood and seeds that came off of it.
I walked out of the hallway into a large room with a fully-built homestead, containing trees, a pond, farmland, and even a small cottage! I explored the area, once again ignoring the speaking wooden plate. Something about marking a land claim with a wooden shovel.
After I was satisfied with my exploration, I walked into an adobe brick hallway I had found earlier.
A speaking stone detailed the information about items and classes of weapons and equipment. Yet another speaking stone said that this "tutorial" is over! I did it! I was finally about to step my first foot into the real "world" (what, this wasn't the real world?).
I pressed a button, and blinked into yet another world.
I looked around me. A few houses and city walls protected me from the wilderness that lay beyond.
I found a peculiar building with some kind of large, fuzzy coin on the roof.
I walked in to see signs nailed to the wall, and two distinctly different chests. It appeared that the signs were advertisements to sell different products. Even in a completely new world, that much stayed the same. Things like this were the reason I pursued the life of a monk, disconnected from mainstream society, living in seclusion in the mountains of Nepal. Even though I moved to get away from the hustle and bustle of city living, the advertisements were a welcome sight, being the only familiar thing I've seen in the foreign realm.
One of the advertisements was nailed over one of the chests stating that whatever was in the chest was free. I took up what was inside and set out of the town on my adventure.
